With almost two decades of experience in Marketing, PR, Advertising and Design, I’m something of an “all-rounder”. I cut my teeth as a publicist in the music industry before making the switch to an advertising agency, where I was mentored in the end-to-end advertising value chain and was exposed to an incredible array of learning opportunities. During my tenure at the agency, I founded its Social Media department, serving as its first Social Media Strategist.
My passion for creative execution led me to embark on a freelance journey, which opened my eyes to so many avenues of creative expression. I honed my graphic design craft, broadened and stretched my PR knowledge and understanding, and took a deep dive into events management and execution.
Seeking a more stable income, I ventured back into the corporate world and found myself in B2B for the first time in my career. Working first as a specialist Copywriter and Designer, and later as the Marketing Team Lead and Senior Marketing Consultant for BSG, a South African consulting and technology company. Stepping into the world of professional services, I encountered new voices and themes and was exposed to a range of topics I had never previously considered. I developed my technical writing capabilities while broadening the scope of my writing, expanding into website copy and SEO, social media writing for LinkedIn, and further developing my graphic design and illustration skills.
I greatly enjoyed being able to utilise different voices for different applications – lighter, more conversational voice for internal communications, more elevated and serious voice for external thought-leadership, case study and website copy.
After being headhunted by boutique strategy consulting and new business incubation firm, Futureworld, as its Brand and Eminence Leader, I once again found myself broadening my copywriting and content generation horizons. Futureworld publishes a weekly Mindbullet – a news article “from the future”. When I first joined Futureworld, I couldn’t fathom being able to transport myself into a future possibility and write a news article about a fictional but possible news event. Working at Futureworld exposed me to a completely new way of thinking, and I’m forever grateful for it.
After a year at Futureworld, I was approached by a former colleague to take up the Content mantle at Cyberlogic, spearheading the organisation’s content marketing efforts, creating client success stories, thought leadership articles, and writing the website copy. Less than six months later, I was leading the marketing team as we embarked on our journey to level marketing up to a group shared service.
In my personal capacity, I occasionally blog about parenting and the joys of motherhood with my wife, and have blogged about my running journey over the years.
Alongside my incredible wife, I am attempting to raise two functional humans. I’m passionate about all things creative. I’m a keen woodworker and all around DIY-er. After Covid shut the world down and in the persuit of new ways to flex my creative muscle, embarked on a journey to illustrate children’s books and have completed children’s book illustration course and a number of digital art exercises.
We are in the final stages of preparing to jump the pond, heading over to Australian shores. As part of my immigration journey, I am seeking a role that allows me to focus on my creative passions.
I enjoy running – well, casual jogging – attempting to stand-up paddle, tinkering in my garage and spending time with my family.
I’m comfortable working remotely and am able to quickly integrate into a team, both in a remote and in-person work environment. I am comfortable with change and levels of uncertainty that most find disconcerting. I am passionate, bold, and ready for my next adventure.
